OUR STORY

In 1963 Lassen formed, together with friends in school, the band called The Blackbirds. A Gretsch guitar was unattainable, but a  japanese Teisco, had a bit of the flavour. The band started playing the hits of the sixties, The Rolling Stones and The Beatles of course, but gradually took inspiration in The Hollies, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and The Who in working with vocal harmonies.

The Blackbirds also worked with their own material and did a lot of demos hoping to get signed with a record company. The band was succesfull in 1973 when they realeased their first single. The record made it to no 15 at the danish Top 30 and no 3 at Tipparaden. The following records was not that succesfull, but the band worked hard in several years, and despite the lack of succes with the records, The Blackbirds were very popular. Finally the band broke up in 1977.

On several occasions The Blackbirds did concerts with another popular band of the time, Ozon, where Lassen and Karl got to know each other.

A phonecall from Norway in 1975 was the very first staggering step for Lassen and Karl to form the band PocoBell in 2006 and start recording their own material.

OZON was in the middle of a 6 weeks tour of Norway. Their guitarist was fed up with touring, he missed his girlfriend, he simply wanted to go home

OZON was a very visual band, colourfull and utgoing. The music was aggressive rock, characterized by the two Fender guitars, bass, drums and three vocals. Karl brought his Gibson Les Paul and a background of what you may call avantgarage from the band Marock.

OZON played their own material, the lyrics and the style was english. However, the band made their first attempt with lyrics in danish, when they wrote and performed the rockopera Folmer. The opera was a one hour continuous story about the career of a crack handed young man, from the cradle to the prison.

After the very hectic start with OZON, things moved fast. The guitars were ringing in this new constellation, and the single 'Liza min ven' was realeased. The record made it shortly in Dansktoppen which was an unexpected, nonplanned accident!
However, it was the rock'n roll show that OZON stagede, that really boosted the band, generated the platform and made OZON a most demanded live band with 120 concerts every year from 1975-81.
The next step towards PocoBell and 2006 was taken in 1976 as Lassen joined the band as a guitarist and vocalist.

OZON created the most fantastic show in the Kingdom. Chrashing microphones, broken and burning guitars and exploding saxophones was all a part of it.
